New family.

New families are a trip.

Swiss' family is great. But man are they different. Waaaaay different than my family. They are bigger (number, not size!). They aren't really "talkers", I am from a loooooong line of talkers. I am an only child. Swiss is the youngest of six(!!!!!). The list goes on... So getting to know their quirks has been a bit of an up and down roller-coaster... Even more so now with a reasonably major family drama that has sprouted up. But sometimes different can be good. You can learn a lot from different, no? However, there are times when different is just difficult.
I can't decide where we are at now... difficult or different. It will suffice to say that differences really come out when the stakes get high. And they are pretty high right now.
I trust that everything will work out okay and that at the end of the day, as long as Swiss and I end up husband and wife... the day will be a success... Right?
Gawd I hope so!
Have a great weekend internets! :)

So true! So true! I'm marrying a sailor in 28 days in Seattle. He has family on the East Coast, most of which can't make the trip. Only 7 people total are coming from the East Coast. 2 in the wedding party and 5 others including Grandpa are flying over to be with us. I wanted to invite them to the Rehearsal Dinner to thank then for making such a long journey. The groom's parents are hosting the rehearsal dinner for us but don't want to invite these 5 people (their own family!) to join us because "it is traditionally only the wedding party." Even after I specifically offered to pay the $125 or so their meals would cost! So instead, my candlelighters are both skipping the rehearsal dinner so they can take Grandpa out to dinner themselves seperatley to get to spend some time with him. I just don't get it. I see weddings as another chance to spend time with friends and family and I guess his family thinks a 4 hour reception when I have to eat, dance and spread my time between 130 other people is enough "togetherness." I feel so bad that my groom will have so little time with Grandpa and these relatives, who it may be years before we see again, but I can't seem to get anyone to see it my way. I'm trying to so hard to let it go but just can't seem to get over it yet.
